Picture this scenario: You’ve just moved to Hilton Head Island. It’s been a long but also exciting day packing, moving, and unpacking. Now, it’s late at night and you’re starving. The stores are either all closed, or you don’t have the energy for a big shop right now. You just want some quality food, and you want it quickly.
To that extent, we’ve compiled this list for you of the best pizza places in Hilton Head for you to grab a cheap and delicious bite to eat when you need it the most.
1. Mangiamo
Right from the architecture and interior design, Mangiamo is a very heavily Italian-themed restaurant and provides an equally strong taste of Italy in its’ food.
Prepared with traditional tomato sauce as a base and 100% mozzarella cheese (interchangeable with cheddar, feta, and parmesan), pizzas here are available in small (8 inch), medium (10 inch), large (12 inch), and extra-large (14 inch) sizes. It’s also extremely affordable, with a basic cheese pizza costing between $6 to $15 depending on size; that is extremely good value in comparison to most pizza places.
For those who like to branch out with their toppings, you can also sink your teeth into pizzas that have pepperoni, salami, bacon, shrimp, onions, different peppers, and many more options.
If a member of your party either doesn’t like or isn’t in the mood for pizza, you can still dine here, as there are a variety of pasta and panini dishes also available.

2. Mellow Mushroom
Opened in 1974 and prides itself on being locally owned and operated on Hilton Head Island, Mellow Mushroom’s restaurant is inspired by its’ surroundings, and is praised for being a simple dining experience. It’s also praised by the locals which are acknowledged by the company themselves.
What sets this restaurant apart from the others is the option to choose between stone-baked and oven-baked pizzas. For those who are unaware, here’s how a stone oven works: you choose the base and toppings for your pizza (or choose a preset option), the team then stretch the dough out from scratch, fire it up in the stone oven for a quick-cooking, then your pizza is delivered hot and fresh to you.
You can also have your pizza crafted into a calzone, or served with munchies, salads, and burgers on the side. These sides go exceptionally well with the stone-baked ‘Mighty Meaty’ or buffalo chicken pizzas. There are also vegan and gluten-free pizzas for those with certain dietary preferences.
All good food can only go down well with an equally good drink. As such, there’s a selection of more than 40 different draft beers for you to choose from to accompany your meal.
Pizza sizes range from small (10 inch), to medium (14 inch), to large (16 inch). Price will also be dependent on toppings and sides included.
3. Gator’z Pizza & Wings
The first thing to note with this pizza place is that it is located within the Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort, though can still be visited without any sort of membership.
After being active out on the tennis court, you’re likely going to be quite hungry, as will your friends and sports opponents. Together, you can all grab a cheesy slice from Gator’z Pizza & Wings, with some of the largest pizza sizes possible available to order here, ranging from medium (12 inch) and large (16 inch) up to mega (20 inch). Mighty though the mega pizzas may be, cheese ones will only set you back $23 each, which is quite affordable when considering how large each one is.
We recommend this pizza place for its’ ‘Carolina Yard Bird’. This is a pizza that is topped with grilled chicken, caramelized onions and buffalo sauce, with mozzarella & bleu cheese crumbles coating the base as well. For each size, this pizza will cost just $2 extra due to all of its’ toppings, but it certainly sounds unique and would make for a filling meal after a day of working out at the resort.
Of course, as the name would suggest, there are also chicken wings available to order on the side.
4. Local Pie Woodfired Pizza
Easily the most talked about and highest-reviewed pizza place on Hilton Head Island, this restaurant prides itself on using only regionally sourced ingredients and being the island’s only true and dedicated Neapolitan-style pizza firer, as well as employing locals and using local suppliers only.
There’s a fair variety of pizzas available here, including Margherita, Buffalo Bacon, ‘The Usual’ (San Marzano sauce, mozzarella, and pepperoni), and also the option to build your own pizza.
It should also be noted that this restaurant has an impressive number of awards vouching for it, including ‘Reader’s Choice’ for 4 years running and ‘Best Of Bluffton’ for 2 years running.
‘Pies’ are available in either 10- or 16-inch sizes, with prices averaging out at $10 on the smaller side and $18 on the larger side.

5. Giuseppi’s Pizza
Another pizza place that is praised by the locals, Giuseppi’s Pizza has over 40 years of business under its’ belt and brings together some of the most exquisite pizza toppings out there.
Examples of these exotic, yet undeniably delicious, combinations include the ‘White’ pizza, which is topped with house blend ricotta and diced tomato, and the ‘Giuseppi’s Special’, which combines sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onion, green pepper, and black olive.
12-inch pizzas will set you back roughly $19 on average, whilst 16-inch pizzas average out at around $22.50. Gluten-free options are available in the same sizes for slightly cheaper. If you don’t feel like taking on an entire pizza, you can order individual slices for $4.25 each typically.
You can also order calzones if you’d rather have the entire slice at once. You can order a meaty (pepperoni, sausage, ham, salami), veggie (mushrooms, olives, etc.), or chicken (buffalo or barbecue sauce, chicken, and bacon) calzone among other options.
Like with most other restaurants on this list, members of your party can order pasta or salad dishes should they rather not eat pizza. There’s also a beer and wine menu to help wash it all down.
